MultiPlus-II Converter / Charger
A MultiPlus with ESS (Energy Storage System) functionality
The MultiPlus-II is a multifunctional converter/charger with all the features of the MultiPlus, and an optional external current probe that increases the PowerControl and PowerAssist function to 50 A and 100 A respectively. The MultiPlus-II is ideal for professional marine installations, with sailboats, vehicles and off-grid systems on land.
It is also equipped with an islanding system and has a long list of certifications for many countries that continues to grow regarding the SSS application. Several system configurations are possible. For more information, refer to the Design and Installation of an ESS System manual.
PowerControl and PowerAssist – Improved network or generator capacity
It is possible to set a maximum current for the generator or the network. The MultiPlus-II then takes into account the other AC loads and it will only use the excess for the load, thus avoiding any overload of the power supply to the network or generator (PowerControl function).
The PowerAssist function gives an extra dimension to the powercontrol principle If a high demand for peak power is often required for a short time, the MultiPlus-II will compensate for the lack of power from the generator, dock or network with energy from the battery. And when demand decreases, the excess power will be used to recharge the batteries.
Solar energy: AC energy available even in the event of a grid failure
The MultiPlus-II can be used both off-grid and connected to a PV grid or other alternative energy systems. It is compatible with both solar charge controllers and grid-connected converters.
Two AC outputs
The main output has an uninterrupted power function. In the event of a network failure or disconnection of the dock or generator power, the MultiPlus-II takes over the supply of the connected loads. This transfer is so fast (less than 20 milliseconds) that the operation of connected computers or other sensitive electronic equipment will not be disturbed.
The second output is only powered on when AC power is available on the Input of the MultiPlus-II. Charges that would not discharge the battery, such as a water heater for example, can be connected to this output.
Power multiplied thanks to parallel and three-phase operation (not available for 8 and 10 k models)
Up to 6 Multi can run in parallel to get more power output. For example, six 48/5000/70 units will provide 25 kW/30 kVA output power and 420 Amps of load capacity.
In addition to parallel connection, three units of the same model can be configured for three-phase output. But that's not all: up to 6 sets of 3 units can be connected in parallel for a 75 kW / 90 kVA converter and more than 1200 A of load capacity.
On-site system configuration, monitoring and control
Settings can be changed in minutes thanks to VEConfigure software (a desktop or laptop computer and MK3-USB interface are required).
Several control and supervision options are available: Color Control GX, Venus GX, Octo GX, CANvu GX, desktop or laptop, Bluetooth (with an EV electronic key. Optional Smart Bus), Battery Controller, Multi Control Panel.
Remote configuration and supervision
Install a Color Control GX or other GX product for connecting to the Internet.
Operating data may be stored and displayed on our free VRM (Victron Remote Management) website.
If systems are connected by Ethernet, they can be accessed and configured.
Standard, mobile or off-grid marine application
Loads that need to be turned off when AC input power is not available can be connected to a second (not off) output. These expenses will be taken into account by the functions
PowerControl and PowerAssist to limit the AC input current to a safe value if AC power is available.
Grid parallel topology with MPPT solar charge controller
The MultiPlus-II will use data from the AC current probe (to be ordered separately) or the power meter to optimize self-consumption and, if necessary, avoid energy returns to the grid. In the event of a power outage, the MultiPlusII will continue to power critical loads.
